Workplace Wellness – Improving Indoor Air Quality

Workplace Wellness - Improving Indoor Air Quality

Improving Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) in buildings is becoming a major part of workplace wellness.

Employees value workplace wellness initiatives and office environments that support their health and well-being. Good air quality in a building Elevates Employee Performance and offers a better Quality of Life.

How does a building affect people’s health and productivity

Peoples approach to the workplace building has changed from how much energy can we save to how does our building affect our people’s health and productivity.

Improving Indoor Air Quality

Indoor air quality has become an important health and safety concern. The causes of poor IAQ can be inadequate temperature control, humidity, poor air circulation, ventilation system issues, high CO2 levels, Insufficient outdoor air intake. Along with contaminants from building occupants—- Carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), tobacco smoke, perfume, body odours.

New buildings particularly suffer from toxins given off from paint, fabric, carpets and humidity during the drying out stage.

The symptoms are typically:

  • Dryness and irritation of the eyes, nose, throat, and skin
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Shortness of breath
  • Hypersensitivity and allergies
  • Sinus congestion
  • Coughing and sneezing
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea

People generally notice their symptoms after several hours at work and feel better after they have left the building or when they have been away from the building for a weekend or a vacation.

A simple to use low cost addition to the range is the New i-Con Manual Natural Vent room unit. This allows for manual control Opening/Closing of vents or windows by the rooms occupants, giving instant control. The simple up, down, buttons with a 5-light indicator shows the level of opening/closing that has been selected, the unit will return to close after an adjustable pre-set time. This means the air quality in a room can be individually controlled to meet the immediate requirements of the occupants.
