Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard (MEES) – we’re practising what we preach!

Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard (MEES)

The Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard (MEES)came into full force this April and like all good BEMS company’s we’re practising what we preach. We’ve recently undergone an Energy Performance Certification at our offices carried out by local Energy Performance assessor’s Briar Associates of Stourbridge. Briar Associates – Energy management and procurement specialists

We achieved a C grade but were only 4 points off a B rating! We have installed LED lighting, Solar Panels, Natural Ventilation, CO2 sensors, we had to draw the line at a ‘Wind Turbine’ on the roof! In fact if the computer algorithm software allowed for the Control Interlocks we’ve installed to manage our window openings and air conditioning hold offs we would definitely have got there… but still we’re happy with  high C.

It was interesting to read an article by Jon Belfield, President of the BCIA in the May edition of BSEE magazine regarding MEES.

It is now more important than ever for building managers and owners to ensure all of their properties are achieving and Energy Performance rating of E and above to avoid breaching the new regulations – which could mean they will be unable to lease or rent out their properties. Under the MEES regulations fines of £4,000 – to £150,000 will be handed out to landlords that rent out sub-standard buildings.

As you would expect Clarkson Controls are expert in helping buildings meet and exceed the new MEES regulations, our building controls systems are built by control engineers for control engineers. They have been designed to be easy to install and are innovative in the solutions they offer.  BACnet intelligent building management control systems
